What more can I do?

I often wonder. Where are the spare minutes in my day? What am I thinking about that is not worth thinking about? How could I get from bed to work with less time used? Can I plan more and get more done or will planning take up more time than it's worth?

Every day brings new evidence to the table. I find something new to do and strike something from the old to-do list. I take stuff out of my calendar and add new stuff.

What can I do for the Lord? What am I doing that is slowing him down? (I'm pretty sure there's no middle ground here)

I've been thinking lately about the concept of time and how I often play into the mindset that more time is more. I'm not so sure that this is the case. The world is obsessed with the idea that time is money, which, we as Christians know is a lie and not a paradigm that we want to operate under. It is true that time is an opportunity to serve the Lord. However, does that always mean having packed schedules? Instead, I think what you say at the end of your post should be our guiding principle: what am I doing that is inhibiting the Lord. I think sometimes focusing on more stuff to do can keep us from focusing on what it is that the Lord wants. Sometimes we are so busy (or at least I am) that I don't rejoice in the "menial"--the long walk to school everyday. I try and do it in less time but end up focusing more on that than the beauty of being able to walk, to look at the trees and sky and realize how amazing the Lord is and giving glory to him.

I think you're right on the mark there, Gina. It is certainly true that focusing on efficiency is not the best plan for all situations. In fact, it's only a good plan if that's what the Lord is doing! Taking 30 min. to pray between waking and working is not the most efficient way to get from Point A (pillow) to Point B (office). But for me anyway, that's what the Lord has going.
